HOUSE HUNTING TIPS
Growing up, I had always been excited about moving. I mean, I love adventure and the sense of doing something new; including experiencing a new environment/life seemed like just what I would always want. Don't mind me, I was just a child
. It wasn't even enough, that I had these wild imaginations; Reading books broaden it all the more. I got to know how Americans( I was exposed to small American literature books at the time) packed their property in boxes; boxes they had gotten from the stores in their town and how they would stack these boxes with their property which they hoped to carry over to their new home.
Well, this is not a lesson on how to train your children to have a wild imagination, like my parents did, you can however learn from that too😄😄but we would be having a conversation on tips to look out for on your next House Hunting journey.
Many times, people talk about the big things, when dealing with House Hunting. As much as these cannot be over-emphasized, let's talk about the seeming small things that have great consequences.
(1) PURPOSE
When purpose is not know, abuse is inevitable
- Myles Munroe
This is one of the first consideration you should make before stepping into the house hunting scene. This is because you would possible find, a thousand and one houses that you love and that seem like "THE ONE". This sense of just choosing at random isn't bad in itself, I mean if that is your purpose. If however your purpose is something else, define it. Use whatever works for you. You can write it down on paper, put in on your phone/system. DEFINE IT.
This is not putting you in a box because even in learning, there are rules and exceptions to them. Therefore, make your rules and where necessary put in the exceptions. Be dynamic but let your starting point be your purpose.
(2) PROXIMITY
Proximity or Nearness is one very important thing to consider when hunting down a house. Proximity however can be defined based on what your purpose is, be it your personal purpose, your career purpose, or whatever else goals/purpose you hope to achieve. Take for example, you desperately need to be away from a place of hurt/pain in order to heal. you might need to consider moving father than staying nearer. Some purposes that could impede your choice of a home include:
(a) Closeness to your place of business/ work or Market.
A Tech guy can decided to move to a Tech Hub cause his purpose is to expand either his knowledge, his market or his connections. Always check your purpose.
(b) Nearness to a place you love
Peoples taste differ. While some love the ocean, others ;like the mountains , some like the bubble of activities. others like a quieter clime. When choosing a home make sure to choose what you love.
(c) Nearness to Family or Friends
This is dependent on your purpose. Whilst some people hate to be close to family, others love the help family and friends give to them or that they have to offer. Make choices in line with your purpose.
(3) COMFORT
This is one very important consideration when you are looking for a home. Comfort, Comfort, Comfort. No one wants to return to a place they are not comfortable at. These tips are intertwined, such that if you don't define your purpose and find a place that is either far from something or close to something, your comfort might be compromised.
Funny enough, your purpose might not be comfort and that is okay. But if you turn it around that is still comfort because you are getting your own comfort in line with your purpose of "no comfort". Therefore define your comfort and get it.
Hunting on a budget, well look for homes that make compromises that can give you the comfort you need, whether through the home location, the house décor or the community, even the possible market for your business can be the comfort that you need.
